At the age of 19, I experienced two huge losses. First, my uncle died and a few weeks after I was raped. I turned to my art as a way to process these traumatic events, inspiring me to create “Letters to the Lost” in order to help others heal as well. For the project, I asked family members to write letters to someone or something that they’ve lost. I then turned their letters into video essays, using different editing techniques on archival family footage and audio recordings of the letters being read. For the installation, the videos play on two CRT TV’s and the letters, along with relative items, are placed in a book.
